What Our Students Learn/Skills you will acquire

The Doctor of Musical Arts in Performance (Instrumental/Keyboard) curriculum emphasizes your artistic development in a specific performing medium at the highest professional level. Historical and theoretical knowledge support your growth and will include broad knowledge of repertoire, music literature and pedagogy. The program prepares you for a career in performance or teaching at the collegiate level or in a studio setting.

Available for majors in flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, percussion, violin, viola, cello, double bass, harp, guitar, organ, piano, voice, collaborative piano and conducting.

You will learn:

  • advanced musicianship in solo performance or conducting settings
  • to perform or conduct a variety of advanced level repertoire
  • to perform or conduct in a variety of settings 
  • advanced knowledge of music theory and music history 

What kind of issues/problems does this major prepare you to solve?

You will be able to perform in a major orchestra or U.S. military band, or teach at the collegiate level or in studio settings.
